PARKLAND COUNTY ---- Parkland County mayor Rod Shaigec recently shared an update on the temporary closure of Prospector's Point Road in conversation with 88.1 The One.

Construction on the road is currently underway as part of ongoing design and rehabilitation work. Mayor Shaigec says the road has been in need of repairs for a long time and encountered unforeseen ground conditions during the repair work. This led to a temporary closure of the road to ensure residents' safety.

"At this stage, we anticipate the reopening of the road will be taking place around June 15, with one-way traffic in and out," said Mayor Shaigec.

He also mentioned that the paving project itself is expected to be fully completed by June 15. In addition to the construction update, the Mayor also weighed in on this year's provincial tax requisitions.

Even though the county delivered a low residential tax rate increase of 0.8 per cent and a non-residential increase of 2.75 per cent in 2026, residents can still expect an increase in their overall tax bill due to the additional taxes imposed by the provincial government.

"For 2026, that tax has increased by 11.99 per cent," said Mayor Shaigec about the education tax. "For an average home in Parkland County, that means about 38 per cent of your tax bill is attributed to the education tax."

Provincial taxes also include a 22 per cent increase in RCMP costs.
