Mâmawihitowin summer gathering set for July 25

STONY PLAIN -- A cultural celebration hosted by the Lac Ste. Anne Métis community will take place this coming Saturday.

The gathering, known as "Mâmawihitowin" will offer a day of cultural events and live entertainment in recognition of the history, heritage, and contributions of the Lac Ste. Anne Métis community. Tracy Friedel, President of the Lac Ste. Anne Métis community, invites members of the public to join in the celebration.

"It's an event that we collaborate on with the Tri-Municipal region, and we welcome folks from near and far, young and old, to come out and enjoy some cultural activities and some of the things we're known for as Lac Ste. Anne Métis," said Friedel in conversation with 88.1 The One's Shane Michaels. "It's been an event that's growing in popularity, and we have an amazing array of sponsors as well that really help us to put this event on and make it free to the public."

The Mâmawihitowin summer gathering is now into its third year, and will feature authentic cultural experiences and a lineup of talent including Multi Juno Award-winner Susan Aglukark, Juno Award winner Fawn Wood, and other talented and accomplished artists and performers like Berkley Jodoin, Darla Daniels, and Mathew Patenaude. 

The event will take place at Heritage Park in Stony Plain from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. this coming Saturday, July 25.
