PARKLAND COUNTY -- Parkland County Mayor Rod Shaigec joined 88.1 The One for his monthly mayoral update:
Mayor Shaigec also weighed in on this week's resignation of Lac St. Anne-Parkland MLA Shane Getson.
Getson stepped down from his role as MLA on Monday, Oct.26, and cited personal and family reasons for his departure. This has left a gap in provincial representation for the region, which is expected to remain in place until the next provincial election in the fall of next year. Mayor Shaigec says that there has been little communication from the local constituency office.
"Obviously, there's going to be a little of a gap in the representation from the constituency office," said Mayor Shaigec. "I do want to thank Shane Getson for his commitment and dedication in serving the residents of Parkland County and Lac St. Anne. But it is a concern that we have not been advised or informed by the constituency office, or the UCP, as to the contact that we can direct our residents to."
Shaigec also touched on the recently approved Hasse Lake redevelopment project, which will see various upgrades undertaken in the area, including parking lot improvements and trail enhancements. He says that it's nice to see this important work moving forward.
"It's one of our recreational opportunities to create visitor experiences that provide not only opportunities for our residents to get into nature, but also residents across the region," said Shaigec. "We see it as a crucial part of enhancing the quality of life for residents."
