PARKLAND COUNTY---- Improvements are underway to reduce operating costs and enhance efficiency at Parkland County facilities.

The energy management projects are partially funded through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre. 165 lights were upgraded throughout the Parkland County Centre between November 2025 and March 2026. These upgrades were meant to reduce the site's energy bill by $1,600 per year.

Early 2026 also saw upgrades to the Acheson Fire Station. Almost 130 lights across the station were upgraded to efficient styles to reduce the site's electricity bill by more than $1,150 per year.

Upgrades are now planned at the TransAlta Tri-Leisure Centre. The existing atmospheric boilers at the site are 23 years old and will be upgraded this year. The upgraded boilers are meant to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 277 tonnes and reduce the site's energy bill by more than $50,000 per year. The centre is used by approximately 2,000,000 visitors each year.

The county says they are also planning to upgrade 160 lights and ventilation systems at the County Services Building. Sensors and timers will also be installed in the building to ensure lighting is only used when needed. The upgrades will result in the reduction of the building's energy bill by $5,000 per year and in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by more than 20 tonnes.

The county's future energy management projects will also include upgrades of windows and doors at Jubilee Hall to stabilize the temperature and reduce energy generated for heating and cooling. These upgrades will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the site's energy bill by $1400 per year.
