Electricity distribution system upgrades set to begin in Devon

DEVON -- Electricity distribution system upgrades are set to take place in the Town of Devon.

These upgrades will be completed by FortisAlberta to support third-party telecommunications infrastructure. This work will occur from September through December and include pole replacements, underground cable modifications, and related system upgrades. According to the company, these major upgrades will be completed in phases throughout the community.

"In certain areas, you may see workers clearing debris from poles scheduled for replacement," reads a statement from FortisAlberta. "This work is part of our ongoing commitment to delivering safe and reliable electricity while supporting the evolving needs of the communities we serve."

Phase one of the project is slated to begin on Sept. 8 and will be followed by five additional phases of work from now until Christmas. During this project, residents may notice staking or flagging in areas scheduled for upcoming work, and some alleys blocked off during work hours for equipment and safe work zones. Signs will be placed in work areas or streets marking zones for crews to salvage poles.

The project aims to improve reliability through the replacement of aging electrical equipment to reduce maintenance and wildlife-related outages. It also seeks to increase clearance between power lines, roadways, or back alleys, and to establish new infrastructure that supports future residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial growth in the Town of Devon.

Fortis also advises that residents within work areas may experience brief planned power outages. If you are affected, you will be notified by the company by phone 48-hours in advance.
