PONOKA COUNTY -- Ponoka County has indicated its desire to sell off its owned property within the Ferrybank Canyon area.
County staff say that this particular land has been in the possession of the municipality for the last 42 years, after being acquired in 1984 through a tax sale. Discussions around the small parcel of land were brought forward at a council meeting in early May.
During the meeting, it was determined that the county will explore the sale of the land to nearby property owners. It's noted by administration that the western portion of the land features a sharp drop-off point, which has raised both safety and liability concerns due to the fact that members of the public have been observed partying and camping in the area.
The parcel is now being offered to adjacent landowners for purchase at market value. Council has discussed access concerns, including the amount of space available for one adjacent landowner's access to the property. We'll have more information on this story as it becomes available.
Ferrybank Canyon is located about 24 km northwest of the Town of Ponoka.
