RIMBEY -- A student from Rimbey Jr/Sr High School has earned provincial recognition.
At a celebration that took place on May 11, 2026, at Government House in Edmonton, Grade 9 student Avery Kenley was named as one of only nine recipients of the 2026 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Student Award. The award, presented through a partnership between the Alberta School Boards Association and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, recognizes students across Alberta who have demonstrated growth, resilience, leadership, and perseverance in both academics and personal development.
"Avery is a very special student," said Bill Bramfield, Principal of Rimbey Jr/Sr High School. "Her work ethic is admirable and unwavering. Avery sets high expectations for herself and works diligently to meet her own personal standard of excellence."
Wolf Creek Public Schools says Avery's nomination described her determination, resilience, and her ability to consistently choose persistence over discouragement. They add that over time, Avery has also developed strong self-advocacy skills and growing independence in managing learning challenges and opportunities. During the ceremony, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, Salma Lakhani, praised this year's award recipients for the resilience and determination they continue to show in their schools and communities.
"These students have demonstrated remarkable determination, resilience, and personal growth," Lakhani said. "Their stories remind us that success is not defined by perfection, but by perseverance, character, and the willingness to continue learning and growing through challenges."
As part of the recognition, recipients received a certificate, commemorative medal and a one-time $500 bursary.
