PONOKA -- Ponoka RCMP have charged a male suspect following a recent residential break-in.
Police say the break-in occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. on May 17, 2026, in the Town of Ponoka. They report that upon entering the residence, the suspect, 35-year-old Daryl Huff, got into a confrontation with the homeowner. Corporal Mathew Howell says the homeowner and the suspect entered into a verbal dispute before the suspect was pushed out of the home.
"It seems that the confrontation was mostly verbal, with the homeowner pushing the suspect outside at some point," said Cpl. Howell. "On May 24, 2026, while conducting patrols through the Town of Ponoka, Ponoka RCMP members located the male suspect and were able to arrest him."
Huff was also charged in connection with an armed robbery at a local business in downtown Ponoka that occurred in September 2024. The victim reported that a male entered the business armed with a knife and demanded money from the cash register. Further investigation uncovered evidence that was sent for DNA analysis, resulting in an identification match.
"As a result of the investigation, 35-year-old Ponoka resident Daryl Huff has been charged with robbery and break and enter," said Cp. Howell. "Daryl Huff was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody."
Huff made his first court appearance on May 26, 2026, in the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.
