STONY PLAIN -- The Town of Stony Plain has released details regarding a recent water main break.
The break was discovered after officials received reports about low water pressure throughout the community at around 11:20 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 9. Following a preliminary investigation, it was determined that private contractor crews working on a project at the intersection of Crystal Drive and Golf Course Road struck a Town water main.
According to Stony Plain staff, the low water pressure resulting from the main break was particularly noticeable in the north end of the municipality. However, they note that there was no complete loss of pressure and no water quality concerns as a result. The water main was successfully isolated at approximately 12:30 p.m. as water pressure began returning to normal across the community.
"Following large water flows, some residents may notice cloudy or discoloured water," said Doug Fraser, Supervisor of Utilities and Environment. "This is temporary and can be resolved by running the cold water tap in a bathtub until the water runs clear and cold."
In a statement, the Town of Stony Plain says they appreciate the assistance of residents who reported the issue to staff. They add that alternatively, residents can utilize the 'Report It' form on the Town's website regarding any future issues in the community.
