STONY PLAIN--- The Town of Stony Plain has released it's 2025 poverty impact report.
Housing data in the report identified 121 residents at risk of homelessness, 7 unsheltered residents and 50 residents as provisionally accommodated. A total of 375 residents were identified as housing insecure after factoring in additional adults and children.
1229 residents had to use the food bank last year, of which 155 were employed yet unable to afford food.
The town's efforts to reduce poverty were also highlighted in the report, including an elimination of late fees by the town library.
Other efforts included free community events such as summer sessions and cultural campfires, and the Regional Housing Program, which helped 20 Stony Plain residents to gain stable housing with financial support.
The Rotary Club of Spruce Grove also provided 10,725 lunches to Stony Plain children attending school within the Parkland School Division.
Also highlighted in the report was NeighbourLink Parkland, a non profit charity that helped residents with financial aid, food hampers, and gently used furniture.
