SPRUCE GROVE -- Parkland RCMP are crediting a pair of officers with lifesaving efforts following a recent incident in Spruce Grove.
The detachment says that the two officers, Constables Vrabel and McPhee, were out on patrol on Friday, June 26, when they were flagged down by a concerned resident near the Nelson Drive roundabout along McLeod Avenue. The resident indicated to the officers that a nearby individual was lying unresponsive in the grass and foaming from the mouth, prompting officers to suspect that an overdose had taken place.
The two officers quickly began CPR with assistance from the bystander. During resuscitation efforts, they observed signs that the individual's airway was beginning to open and that the responsiveness was improving. An additional officer arrived and continued life-saving measures until EMS personnel arrived on scene.
"Parkland RCMP would also like to recognize Constable Vrabel and Constable McPhee for their swift response, professionalism, and successful lifesaving efforts," reads a statement from the detachment. "Parkland RCMP would also like to thank the member of the public whose quick thinking and prompt action in alerting police contributed to the positive outcome."
The individual was subsequently transported to hospital for further treatment.
