Spruce Grove, AB
At the Heavy Metal Place site, construction of the co-located Spruce Grove Transit Centre was completed this month, and final inspections are underway. It is anticipated the official handover will occur in early November, and the Transit Centre will open to transit riders and buses on Monday, December 2.
The Transit Centre includes parking stalls for Park & Ride users at no cost, a passenger drop off/pick up zone, bike racks, and a heated shelter where riders can wait for their bus. The drop off zone and transit platform are fully lit to enhance safety and security. Initial construction of the transit platform allows for four transit buses with future capacity to add three additional bays.
Other significant milestones achieved at the Heavy Metal Place site this month include:
- Completing all the paving.
- Pouring the ice slab for the spectator arena.
- Completing the installation of all the exterior windows.
- Pouring the concrete for the plaza.
Additionally:
- In the community arena, the flooring in the dressing rooms has been installed and painting is ongoing.
- In the spectator arena, interior framing, boarding, and taping is nearing completion. The doors and handrails are being installed and the tiling and flooring in the dressing rooms are being installed.
- On the south half of the building, exterior cladding is being installed on the Spruce Grove Public Library branch, the art gallery, and the black box theatre while interior framing, boarding, and taping is ongoing. Electrical and mechanical rough ins are also being completed in these areas.
