Parkland Mayoral Update - September 2026

PARKLAND COUNTY -- Parkland County Mayor Rod Shaigec joined 88.1 The One for his monthly mayoral update: 

Mayor Shaigec also weighed in on longstanding traffic safety concerns along Highway 627.

This comes as the provincial highway was recently identified by Parkland RCMP as one of the most dangerous roads in the region. Over the past 12 months, police have responded to 19 total vehicle collisions along the roadway, with four resulting in fatalities. Mayor Shaigec says that Parkland County remains committed to advocating for safety upgrades to be undertaken by the province. 

"That is a concern that we've raised to the Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen," said Mayor Shaigec. "We all submitted a letter to the Minister requesting that they prioritize improvements. It's unacceptable, the conditions -- with the growth that we're seeing the region and the province and the number of passenger vehicles, and more-so the commercial vehicles. It is a concern for council and residents in the region for sure." 

Most of the traffic concerns along Highway 627 relate to its intersection at Highway 60.
