Stony Plain, AB

Don’t Just Trash It! New changes to the Town of Stony Plain’s Battery Recycling Program are em-“powering” residents by giving them even more easy ways to reduce their environmental footprint.

Beginning May 1, battery recycling boxes will be posted at all Town facilities, making it simpler than ever to recycle batteries quickly and conveniently. When boxes are full, they will be picked up, emptied and reposted by Public Works employees. The program will be offered year-round and promotional boxes will also be handed out at Town events.

“Reducing, reusing and recycling is a shared responsibility of all of us and the changes to the Battery Recycling Program will make it easier than ever for residents to join in and do their part,” says Mayor William Choy.

“Best of all, the program is available town-wide and free of charge — just like the batteries we will recycle!” says Doug Fraser, Supervisor of Utilities and Environment for the Town of Stony Plain.

This program will be offered as part of the Government of Alberta’s Extended Producer Responsibility Regulation (EPR) and in conjunction with Call2Recylce. The initiative contributes to environmental priorities outlined in the Town’s 2025-2028 Strategic Plan, which highlights the importance of building community support for environmental initiatives.

Both rechargeable and primary, or single-use, batteries weighing less than 5kg are accepted under the program. Batteries with a post or terminal need to be covered. Visit www.stonyplain.com/waste to learn more.
