Parkland County Economic Update - Sept. 2026

PARKLAND COUNTY -- Parkland County continues to build its economic momentum in collaboration with regional partners.

This is according to the latest economic growth report filed by county administration on Sept. 1. The report details the current work being undertaken through regional and provincial partnerships as well as ongoing programs, initiatives, and projects. This had included collaborative efforts alongside Parkland County's tri-municipal partners, Stony Plain and Spruce Grove.

"We worked with Stony and Spruce to look at some collaboration opportunities for workforce development," said Denise Carlson, Acting Director of Strategic Growth. "As well as tourism and business supports, which leverage our small team to do more business retention and expansion here in the tri-region. So, a success on both of those fronts." 

In meetings with the University of Alberta, Carlson says the county was able to identify opportunities in economic development, innovation, workforce development, applied research, and student placements. They also initiated discussions with the U of A Botanic Garden regarding tourism promotion and collaborative programming.

"We've explored partnership opportunities to align with our economic growth and priorities," said Carlson. "So that's put us into contact with U of A priorities such as research, funding, community development, and partnerships."

Carlson also confirmed that the construction of three new buildings continues to progress in the Ranchlands Business Park, while the first spec building in the Tower Business Park is now under construction and is advertised for lease. Parkland County is also working with the Acheson Business Association on several ongoing initiatives. 

According to the county, local support was also recently provided for film production location scouting.
