Devon RCMP warn against vandalism of election signs

DEVON -- Police say vandalism of election signs has been a problem in the community.

With this spring's federal election campaign ongoing, the signs have appeared in many areas of the township including along roadways and on private property. According to Devon RCMP, a large number of incidents have been reported to police relating to the damage or removal of said signs. 

The Mounties are reminding the public that tampering with election signs is a serious offence. Individuals caught stealing or damaging signs may face charges under the Canada Elections Act, as well as potential prosecution for mischief, theft, or trespassing under the Criminal Code, which could result in a criminal record.

Anyone with information related to the vandalism or theft of election signs is asked to contact the Devon RCMP at 780-987-3413. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
