LEDUC -- Leduc-Beaumont MLA Brandon Lunty appeared before Leduc City Council this week to discuss economic development and possible future investments in the Leduc region.
The presentation included discussions on future infrastructure investments and recent provincial grant funding for local organizations. MLA Lunty also highlighted the $45.9 million investment in the Salem Manor project.
"I'm personally really excited to see that," said Lunty. "I got a chance to tour Salem Manor a couple of times and could see the need for that investment. We look forward to that being a part of our community for decades to come now."
The project was announced at the end of April as part of the Alberta government's Assisted Living Framework. Meantime, for possible future investments, Lunty says he will be holding discussions with Alberta Transportation about possible safety upgrades for the Highway 2A overpass.
"My office receives a lot of safety complaints, which we certainly take seriously and pass those along to Alberta's Transportation Minister," said Lunty. "Once we can get through that from a long-term plan, I think that's really going to make some improvements and open up that part of our city as well, which is really exciting."
Several of Leduc's City Councillors echoed Lunty's comments, saying that safety improvements for the overpass are long overdue. No formal plans have been announced as of yet. In addition, Lunty noted that plans are also being explored to upgrade the Leduc Hospital.
"I've already had some discussions with the hospital about a potential emergency room project down the line," said Lunty. "So, I look forward to continuing those discussions and seeing what that could look like to transform that service, and the rest of our hospital as well."
Brandon Lunty has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Leduc-Beaumont since 2023 and was recently appointed as the Chief Government Whip for the UCP government.
