Leduc County boosts traffic enforcement on TWP 490 & RR 263

LEDUC COUNTY -- Leduc County Protective Services has boosted enforcement on Township Road 490 and Range Road 263 in response to a number of traffic concerns observed over the past several years.

This has included a significant increase in patrols conducted by county peace officers during this time, which has resulted in a high number of warnings and tickets issued to drivers in violation of traffic laws. Tylor Bennett, Director of Protective Services, says the results of this enhanced traffic enforcement program have been dramatic. 

"The number of tickets issued to drivers in the first half of 2026, 515 tickets, is 281 per cent of the total number of tickets issued in all of 2025," said Bennett. "The number of patrols conducted on both roads in the first half of 2026, 313 patrols, is already 153 per cent of the total number of patrols conducted in all of 2025."

Over the first six months of the year, peace officers have handed out a total of 379 tickets on Township Road 490, along with 136 tickets on Range Road 263. These numbers are well above the number of tickets issued during the combined years of 2023-2025. Overall, Bennett notes that he believes that while driving habits appear to be improving among local residents, many of those ticketed are drivers from outside the area.

"While patrols and tickets continue to rise, peace officers are finding that the majority of drivers charged are not from Leduc County," said Bennett. "This indicates that local residents' driving behaviors are improving, but visitors and those individuals passing through the county are not."

In one recent instance, a vehicle was stopped by a peace officer for traveling at a speed of 146 km/hr in a posted 90 km/hr zone on Township Road 490 west of Range Road 255. The driver was issued a mandatory court appearance.
