NISKU -- Commissionaires Northern Alberta Group has officially broken ground on the new Keewatin Range Complex.

The new 100-metre indoor live-fire shooting range will aim to strengthen professional firearms, tactical, and operational readiness training opportunities for military, law enforcement, and other public safety professionals across Western Canada. A ground-breaking ceremony was held on Oct. 28, 2026, at the CNAG Training Centre in Nisku.

"Today marks an important step forward, not only for CNAG but for the broader public safety and defence communities we serve," said CNAG Executive Director Tony Meier. "The Keewatin Range Complex is being built to provide military and law enforcement with access to the type of modern training environment required to develop and maintain critical skills."

The new indoor live-fire shooting range is designed to meet the evolving training requirements of military and law enforcement through a controlled environment that supports live-fire training, tactical instruction, and dynamic movement exercises. Commissionaires Northern Alberta Division, whose mandate includes advancing public safety, supporting veterans, and fostering professional excellence across the region, is the lead supporter of this endeavor.

"The Keewatin Range Complex is an investment in readiness, capability, and the future of professional training in Canada," said Nick Grimshaw, CEO of Commissionaires Northern Alberta Division. "This project will create opportunities for military, law enforcement and public safety professionals to train in an environment specifically designed to support modern operational requirements while reinforcing our shared commitment to public safety."

The facility is expected to complement CNAG's existing training environments, which already provide specialized learning spaces for security, emergency response, and public safety professionals. It will also provide opportunities for military veterans and retired law enforcement officers to pass on their skills to the next generation.

The name Keewatin means "North Wind" in Cree. Upon completion, the facility will further establish the CNAG Training Centre as a premier destination for specialized training and professional development in Western Canada. The Keewatin Range Complex is expected to officially open its doors in late 2027.
