LEDUC -- Property taxes in Leduc will be decreasing by four per cent this year when compared to the rates from 2024.

The City says this is the third straight year that property taxes have declined, placing them among the lowest in the region. The new rates for 2025 will see property owners paying $723 on every $100,000 of assessed property value. The City notes that the decrease was made possible due to careful financial planning and increased revenue growth.

"We know affordability matters to Leduc families," said Leduc Mayor Bob Young. "Council has worked to strike a balance between supporting the programs and services our growing city needs -- roads, emergency services, and community spaces that make Leduc a great place to live -- while minimizing the tax impact for homeowners."

Seventy-three cents of each dollar paid in property taxes helps fund community services, including emergency services (fire, ambulance), police and bylaw enforcement, roads, snow removal, public transit, parks and recreation, libraries, and community programming.

Meantime, residents will notice a slight uptick in the amount paid for the Leduc Regional Housing Foundation's requisition costs. This is money will go towards improving the living conditions for residents at the LRHF's many seniors' buildings, including Planeview Manor in Leduc. According to Councillor Bill Hamilton, Planeview has fallen into disrepair in recent years, and more funding is greatly needed.

"The reality is there are some units in there that are just embarrassing," said Hamilton. "They can't plug in a toaster, or an air conditioner or a fan even without blowing a fuse, so it's desperately in need of redevelopment."

Property tax notices will be mailed on May 8th.
