Heavy snowfall is expected to pummel parts of the Edmonton metro region on Wednesday.
According to Environment Canada, hazardous winter conditions will develop early in the morning. Very poor visibility in blowing snow is likely, as heavy snow, with total amounts of 10 to 20 cm, will combine with strong gusty winds. This will make roads and walkways very difficult to navigate, as visibility may be suddenly reduced to near zero at times.
The agency says that winds will begin to ease by Wednesday afternoon, first across north-central Alberta. Blowing snow conditions will improve from northwest to southeast as winds diminish. Heavy snow will continue after the winds ease, but will taper off through the afternoon and evening from north to south.
Blizzard conditions are most likely to develop in southeastern areas, where Environment Canada says the current guidance suggests the strongest winds and heaviest snowfall. To report severe weather, you can send an email to ABstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484, or post reports on X using #ABStorm.
