2025 Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators Municipal Inspiring Workplace Award Presentation

At last night’s Council meeting, Troy Flemming, City Manager of Fort Saskatchewan and Board Member of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA), presented the 2025 Municipal Inspiring Workplace Award to the Town of Stony Plain.

The Town was selected in the Under 20,000 Population category for its Creating an Inspiring Workplace Through Leadership Excellence program, which features the internally developed LEAD Program. Introduced in 2019, the program fosters a culture of leadership at all levels by supporting employee growth, well-being, and organizational resilience.

Funding Approved for Trans Alta Tri Leisure Center Grant Application

Lenny Richer, General Manager of the Trans Alta Tri Leisure Centre (TLC), presented an overview of a planned 2026 capital project involving the replacement of an air handling unit and aquatic pumps. The project is estimated to cost just over $3 million.

Council approved a $372,000 funding commitment to support the TLC’s application to the Government of Alberta’s Active Communities Grant. The TLC is applying for a maximum grant amount of $1,500,000. The grant application requires a confirmation of 50% matching funding shared between the Town of Stony Plain, the City of Spruce Grove, and Parkland County.

Transportation Asset Management Update Presented to Council

Administration presented an update to Council last night on the Town’s transportation asset management practices. Since Council’s initial briefing in 2022, Administration has made significant progress in updating pavement condition data and expanding its asset management approach to include trails and sidewalks. This report provides an overview of the Town’s transportation-related assets, highlighting how improved condition monitoring is supporting a more efficient, sustainable, and forward-looking approach to infrastructure management.

Recreation Facility Project Update Presented to Council

Last night, Administration provided an update to Council regarding the progress of the recreation facility project. Funding for the project was approved in April 2024, and construction is currently underway with the facility set to open in late 2026. Key milestones to date include contract award, groundbreaking, and the start of construction.
