Regional Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Street Naming Honour

On a beautiful sunny Thursday morning, The Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce gathered with members of the Levasseur Family, close friends and local dignitaries to officially name 43rd Avenue in honour of Gerry Levasseur, a cherished local resident whose contributions have left a lasting impact on the community.

The naming represents the Avenue located directly behind the Sunrise International Head Office and the Best Western Sunrise Inn & Suites where Gerry both worked and lived. The naming will serve as a permanent tribute to Levasseur’s dedication, leadership, and spirit of community.

Mr. Levasseur’sclose friend Murray Kulak, Owner of Dekker Properties Management Ltd., shared with the crowd how Gerry made a lasting impression on everyone he met with that unforgettable smile and wonderful sense of humour. He spoke about Gerry’s humble beginnings and the incredible success he achieved over the years. Mr. Kulak also shared how Gerry was always willing to help others achieve their own success by mentoring many along the way. The street naming in his honour is a very special tribute acknowledging his undeniable commitment to the tri region and especially the town of Stony Plain right next to his office and residence.

“Mr. Levasseur embodied the values that define Stony Plain – generosity, perseverance, and a deep commitment to helping others, said Norman Leach, Executive Director of the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce. Naming this avenue in his honour ensures that his memory continues to inspire future generations.Hislegacy in this community and the Tri Region touches so many areas.”

Gerry was a pillar in Stony Plain’s growth and community spirit by Founding of the Rotary Club in Spruce Grove and was the recipient of the Coveted Paul Harris Award. Making significant contributions to many community initiatives in the Tri Region both monetary and gifts in kind. Many of Gerry’s contributions were not made public as he was a true philanthropist and did not want recognition when helping others.

Locally he was a prominent member of our business community owning and Operating many businesses in the area; Sunrise International, Grove RV, The Best Western Sunrise, Stony Plain Inn & Suites all which greatly contributed to the local economy and provided jobs for many local residents.

The decision to name the avenue after Gerry Levasseur was unanimously supported by Town Council and follows the Town’s Street Naming Policy, which allows for the recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to Stony Plain’s cultural, civic, or historical development.

"This is more than a street name – it’s a story of a life well-lived and a community that remembers,” said his son Gerard Levasseur. Our family will be forever grateful to the community for this beautiful tribute.”
