PARKLAND COUNTY -- Parkland County Fire Services is welcoming 20 new firefighters as part of their 2025 recruit class.
The new recruits -- who will assist the department in boosting region's emergency response capabilities -- were celebrated at the recent PCFS graduation ceremony held earlier this month. Fire Chief Brian Cornforth says they have demonstrated the hard work and determination necessary to serve the community as part of the department.
"These recruits have not only put in the time and hard work required to reach this milestone but have shown the character it requires," said Fire Chief Brian Cornforth. "They are joining a service built on teamwork, integrity, and a strong commitment to community. We are proud to welcome them to Parkland County Fire Services, and we hope their achievement encourages others to consider firefighting as a meaningful way to serve close to home."
In addition to celebrating the newest members of Parkland County Fire Services, the event on Apr. 8, 2026, recognized firefighters and emergency communications staff for service milestones, along with provincial and federal honours for exemplary service.
For the firefighter awards, Chelsea Davis and Michael Pischke were both recognized for 20 years of service, while Andrea Wichuk received an award for her 25 years with the department. For the Alberta Emergency Services medals, Darryl Johnson earned the silver bar for his 32 years of service. Some of the noted recipients of the Federal Exemplary Services medals were Chief Brian Cornforth, Jeff Wiggins, and Bill Purdy -- who received the 60-year service bar.
