PARKLAND COUNTY -- A 44-year-old resident of Spruce Grove has passed away after a vehicle collision on Highway 16.
Parkland RCMP say they responded to the scene shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, after receiving reports of a two-vehicle collision near the Highway 60 overpass. Upon attendance with the Parkland RCMP Reconstruction Unit, an investigation determined that a grey Dodge Durango was travelling westbound on Highway 16 when it struck a stationary scissor lift work platform.
"The driver of the Dodge Durango, a 44-year-old male resident of Spruce Grove, was pronounced deceased on scene," reads a statement from Parkland RCMP. "The construction worker who was in the bucket of the scissor lift was transported to hospital by EMS with serious injuries."
Both the west and eastbound lanes of Highway 16 were closed and traffic was diverted to the off-ramps due to the investigation.
