SPRUCE GROVE -- Parkland RCMP Constable Cody Sippel has been presented with the St. John Ambulance Life Saving Award.
Mounties say that Cst. Sippel was recognized after an incident that unfolded on Feb. 12, 2024. It's reported that the officer responded to a call involving a youth who was experiencing an overdose in the community.
After receiving no reaction to a sternum rub, Cst. Sippel checked for both a carotid and radial pulse, but was unable to locate either. Acting quickly, he then moved the youth to the floor and began CPR. Moments later, the youth started to move, and it was determined they were breathing. EMS arrived at the scene a short time later and took over care.
"We recognize Constable Sippel’s swift actions and training directly contributed to saving this young person's life," said the Parkland RCMP in a statement. "Our community is fortunate to have officers like him who are committed to protecting and helping others when every second counts."
