Administration provided and update about the Community Recreation Facility project at last night’s Council Meeting, which continues to move forward on schedule and on budget. As of Q2 2025, 11% of the overall project is complete and construction momentum is continuing to build.
Since the project was approved by Council in April 2024, several major milestones have been achieved including contract award, groundbreaking, site preparation, utility installation, and geothermal work. The outer shell of the facility is expected to be complete by the end of the construction season, and residents can expect noticeable progress on the site in the coming months.
“This facility will be a place for health, community, and connection for generations to come in Stony Plain,” says Mayor William Choy. “It’s exciting to see steady, tangible progress on this project as we work towards opening the doors to the facility in late 2026.”
“The vision for this facility is really taking shape,” says General Manager of Community and Protective Services Karl Hill. “Residents can now see real, physical progress on site, and that momentum will continue to build throughout the year. It’s a significant construction season, and I’m excited to see the progress as the facility continues to develop.”
When complete in Q4 2026, the Community Recreation Facility will feature a walking and running track, turf field, multi-purpose sport courts, pickleball courts, a six-sheet curling facility, community spaces, and a concession. The site has been designed for future expansion, with flexibility to accommodate additional recreation and leisure needs in the years ahead.
