STONY PLAIN -- Justin Laurie is seeking another term on Stony Plain Town Council.
Laurie was first elected in the 2017 municipal election and was re-elected in 2021. Prior to his time on Council, he served as the Chair of the Family Community Sports Services Board. When asked about his priorities for the next term, he mentioned his goal of moving the community forward.
"Making sure that we're continuing to manage the growth that we're seeing in our community in a responsible way," said Laurie in conversation with 88.1 The One. "And, maximizing the infrastructure that we have in place, so that we're not stretching ourselves too thin."
Laurie was born in Spruce Grove and has now lived in Stony Plain for the past twelve years. He has coached youth soccer with both the Stony Plain and Spruce Grove Soccer Associations for roughly 10 years, and currently serves as the Executive Director with the Spruce Grove Soccer Association.
When asked about why the people of Stony Plain should elect him for a third time, he said that his track record and work in the previous two terms have been very visible in the community. He also stressed the importance of being present in council meetings.
"I think it's important to make sure that as a Councillor who's been elected to be present, that you're present at the meetings, making sure that you're listening to all the information, and being a part of all the decisions," said Laurie.
Laurie also operates a personal health and wellness business offering fitness classes, personal training, and healthy eating and weight loss consultation and coaching.
