Leduc, AB
On July 8, 2024, Leduc RCMP responded to an armed robbery at the Coasters Lounge in Leduc.
Officers attended the lounge and learned one male suspect wearing a ski mask entered the lounge brandishing a firearm and demanded money from the lone employee. The suspected then fled the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Patrols were made, but the suspect was not located.
On July 11, 2024, Leduc RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) with the assistance of the Leduc Crime Reduction Unit and the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant on a hotel room on Sparrow Drive. Following the search, the suspect was identified and a warrant for arrest was sought.
On Aug. 30, 2024, 24-year-old Jonathan Anthony Ninan, a resident of Edmonton, was arrested by Edmonton Police Service.
Ninan was charged with the following:
- Robbery
- Pointing a firearm
- Disguise with intent
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Following a judicial hearing, Ninan was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc on Sept. 5, 2024.
