Leduc RCMP release results of this year's Project Streetlight

LEDUC -- More than 540 hours of proactive patrols were conducted by police during this year's 'Project Streetlight'.

The two-day enforcement blitz took place from Aug. 13-14 with the goal of boosting public safety in areas throughout Leduc. Following the success of last year's initiative, the Leduc RCMP sought to build on the previous momentum in partnership with various community partners include the Leduc FCSS. Constable Lindsay Grant says the focus of this year's initiative was based on the principles of proactive policing and compassionate intervention. 

"The Leduc RCMP have successfully concluded Project Street Light 2.0, a two-day coordinated enforcement and community safety operation held on August 13 and 14," said Cst. Grant. "Building on the initiative's strong track record, the operation blended proactive policing with compassionate intervention to address community concerns regarding social disorder, public safety, open-air drug use, and criminal activity in parks and open spaces."

During the two-day operation police executed 10 warrants, resulting in 9 arrests. A total of 29 investigative files were generated, and 19 street checks were conducted across the jurisdiction. In addition, 10 tent encampments were visited and/or dismantled, and one person was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. 7 life-saving kits were handed out, and more than 15 individuals were provided with FCSS referrals. 

"This project could not have been made possible without the coordinated efforts from our enforcement partners, FCSS, the City of Leduc, the Town of Calmar, and Leduc County," said Inspector Kiel Samotej, Detachment Commander. "The Leduc RCMP is committed to improving service delivery, transparency, and addressing the needs of the communities we serve."

Launched originally in October 2025 as a response to community feedback, the detachment says that 'Project Streetlight' focuses on three core pillars: Street Safety and Enforcement, Wrap-Around Services, and Community Engagement.
