LCLA earns Leduc Achievement Award

LEDUC -- The Leduc Community Living Association has earned the City of Leduc's Achievement Award.

The goal of these awards is to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of individuals, groups, organizations, and businesses that bring recognition or benefit to the Leduc community and its residents. At their council meeting on Sept. 14, 2026, Leduc Mayor Lars Hansen officially recognized the LCLA for its 40 years of service in the community. 

"This award recognizes their outstanding commitment to fostering inclusion, independence, and community participation for individuals with developmental disabilities," said Mayor Hansen. "Since 1986, the LCLA has supported individuals and families in Leduc, Leduc County, and Devon. What began as a vision from a group of parents seeking meaningful opportunities for their children has grown into a highly respected community organization." 

The mission of the LCLA is to support individuals with developmental disabilities so they can build confidence, gain independence, and engage with their community. Some of their services include housing and residential supports where individuals can live in their own homes with 24-hour on-call staff assistance rather than overnight staff.

"Through supported employment, volunteer opportunities, housing supports, respite services, and life-skills development, the LCLA empowers individuals to reach their goals and live with dignity, independence, and purpose," said Hansen. "Their impact can be seen throughout our community, including at the Leduc Recreation Centre where many of the individuals they help create a welcoming environment for staff and visitors alike."

For the LCLA's early years, it served only two participants, seeking out volunteer opportunities at first, which eventually evolved into a role running the gift shop at the Leduc Community Hospital. Now, they offer a much wider range of services and opportunities for participants, from volunteering to employment placement.
