Block 50 Leduc Pet Fair set for Sept. 19

LEDUC -- This year's Block 50 Leduc Pet Fair is set to take place on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Leduc Grain Elevator.

The annual family-friendly event aims to raise funds and awareness for local animal rescues and gives attendees a chance to meet a variety of adoptable pets! At least nine rescue organizations will be attending this year's Pet Fair, and all proceeds raised through the event go back to the participating rescues. Organizer Michelle Schwengler says it's important to come together to support local animal shelters.

"Animal shelters are really struggling for support," said Schwengler. "I think that times are hard for everybody, so it's just so important to remember that these little guys have lives to live as well, and they need our support. It's a really good way to give back to something so important." 

In addition to the adoptable animals, the annual Pet Fair will include the wiener dog races, a pet costume parade with prizes, a dog agility play area, a silent auction, a pet and animal-themed market, live music, and more. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Schwengler says that the Edmonton Reptile Rescue will also be on hand this year for residents looking for something a little different.

"They'll have snakes, lizards, geckos, turtles, so that's a really fun new addition this year," said Schwengler. "I don't know if you'll be able to meet all of the adoptable ones there, because they're very difficult to transport, but they will have images and pictures that you can look into for those guys as well."

Schwengler says the Pet Fair has welcomed approximately 3,000–4,000 people in previous years, making it a great opportunity for rescues to connect with the community, showcase adoptable animals, and raise much-needed funds.
