PONOKA -- Wolf Creek Public Schools appears to be closing in on a new land transfer agreement.
According to a report filed at the school division's latest Board of Trustees meeting, the land in question is the site of the former Ponoka Seed Plant, adjacent to the WCPS district office. Discussions regarding the 0.405-hectare lot were first initiated last year after Ponoka Co-op Seed Cleaning Plant Ltd approached the division to probe its interest in acquiring the property.
At their meeting on Dec. 18, 2025, the WCPS Board of Trustees approved a motion to pen a letter to the company confirming their desire to purchase the property. However, it was also stated by the Board that they would first need to undertake an environmental study to determine the condition of the land.
In a note from WCPS Secretary Treasurer Kevin Pobuda, the environmental study was conducted by ParklandGEO, an engineering consulting firm that specializes in geotechnical, environmental, and materials engineering, testing, and monitoring services. In a statement, the division says that following the satisfactory completion of the study, they are now in a position to move forward with the land acquisition.
We'll have more on this developing story as it becomes available.
