PONOKA -- A blast of spring snowfall is expected to hit Ponoka County over the next 24 hours.
This is according to a special weather advisory issued by Environment Canada, which expects some areas to see anywhere between 10-25 cm of snow accumulate by Thursday evening. They note that while snowfall amounts will vary widely across the region tonight and into tomorrow, some areas could see heavier amounts of 30 cm or more.
The weather agency states that poor visibility due to blowing snow is also possible in some areas tonight and Thursday morning. For tomorrow, the snowfall is expected to wrap up sometime in the evening hours.
Travel will likely be challenging over the next day or so, as roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snowfall in many areas. Residents are asked to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If driving, turn on your lights, slow down, and maintain a safe following distance.
To report severe weather, you can email Environment Canada at ABstorm@ec.gc.ca, or call 1-800-239-0484.
