PONOKA -- Public consultation for the newly proposed Civic Plaza is now open.
Residents are being invited to provide feedback on the proposed design for the new plaza, which is slated to be built next the Ponoka Legion and across from the Alberta Provincial Courts building. The town says that once public input is gathered on the conceptual design, they'll then create a more detailed design based on the input received.
According to administration, the current conceptual design for the new plaza includes a landscaped gathering and seating area with benches and picnic tables, green space, water fountains, public washrooms, bike racks, lighting, and waste receptacles. They note that the proposed plaza will be a welcoming space to connect with others and will facilitate community events and outdoor concerts. The new civic plaza will also be easily accessible by motorists and pedestrians.
"There has been a lot of interest expressed by Ponoka citizens over the years for a community gathering space in downtown Ponoka," said Town of Ponoka Chief Administrative Officer Sandra Lund. "We are excited to launch the design process for the proposed Civic Plaza and to invite community input on this project."
Construction of the new Civic Plaza will depend on future consideration and approval of the facility design, location, and budget by the town's mayor and council. If you wish to provide feedback relating to the project you can do so at LetsTalkPonoka.ca. The town says that their survey only takes a few minutes to complete and public engagement will remain open until Sunday, June 1.
Alternatively, if you'd like to submit feedback in person, you can visit the Town of Ponoka's booth at this weekend's Ponoka Trade Show.
