PONOKA -- Several capital projects in Ponoka have received updates from Town staff.
According to their 2025 Master Project List, the design phase for the new Sewage Treatment Plant is expected to get underway soon. Planning for the facility has been underway since last year and is expected to continue throughout the early part of 2025. The report notes that the creation of a sanitary connection with the Centennial Hospital remains under review at this time.
Upgrades to Ponoka's Waste Transfer Station also continue, with site analysis and design planning ongoing.
Redevelopment work on 51st Avenue between 50th Street and 51st Street has been completed with the project coming in under budget. In addition, the Town's 49th Street River Slope Improvements has secured its funding, and will be underway this year. Town staff also say work is currently underway on Ponoka's power pole replacements, which is an annual expenditure.
Meantime, the Ponoka Skate Park is expected to officially open this coming June, with concrete, railing, fencing and landscaping expected to be completed during the Spring.
