Ponoka Elementary exceeds Terry Fox Foundation goal

PONOKA -- Ponoka Elementary School raised more than $17,000 during this year's Terry Fox Run.

In total, PES students and families were able to raise $17,551.63, smashing their fundraising goal of $16,000 in the process. These funds will go towards the Terry Fox Foundation's efforts to fund innovative cancer research and support top research centres and networks, such as the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network, to help end the deadly disease.

"Wonderful efforts PES! Your school, and all our schools, have made such a difference in raising funds for cancer research," reads a statement from the Wolf Creek School Division. "In keeping with their amazing Terry Fox Run efforts as being one of the leading fundraising schools in the country, Ponoka Elementary School raised $17,500, which completely surpassed their $16,000 goal."

The efforts put forth by Ponoka Elementary were also supported through community partners, including the Town of Ponoka, which donated six free class swims to the top fundraising classes. Boston Pizza also stepped up by donating seven free pizzas to the top fundraisers. The students who raised the most for the fundraiser received the opportunity to "slime" some of their school administrators, including Principal McEntee, at their assembly on September 24th.
