PONOKA -- The Ponoka Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its Pancake Breakfast fundraiser tomorrow in support of the Ponoka Food Bank.

The annual event is now into its third year and is set to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on June 30 at 5102 48 Ave, right next to the Ponoka Legion and across the street from ATB. Bruce Clarke, President of the Ponoka Chamber of Commerce, talks about the importance of supporting the operations of the Ponoka Food Bank as demand continues to increase locally.

"In this time and age, it's very, very important," said Clarke. "All the food banks across the foodbanks are running low on inventory, and Ponoka is no different. We'd love to see as many people as possible come out and support the food bank."

In 2025, Alberta recorded the highest spike in food bank usage in Canada, according to the Food Banks Canada HungerCount Report. Monthly visits to food banks across the province surged to 210,541, representing a 21.8 per cent increase from the year prior, and a 134.4 per cent increase since 2019.

"Last year, I think we had close to 400 people," said Clarke. "We would love to see 1,000 or more this year."

Tickets for the Pancake Breakfast are priced at $5.00 and can be purchased at the door.
