PONOKA -- Ponoka RCMP have provided additional details about a violent incident at the Royal Hotel as part of their September policing report.

The report covers police incidents that occurred within the Ponoka RCMP jurisdiction from Sept. 1 to Sept. 30. Part of the update touched on the stabbing that occurred at the Royal Hotel on Sept. 19. According to police, the incident involved two male suspects confronting the victim inside the bar before stabbing him several times. It's reported that the two individuals fled the scene in a vehicle, and that no arrests have been made as of today.

The detachment responded to a total of 401 calls for service during September, as officers conducted 12 curfew compliance checks and issued 25 violation tickets and five warnings for traffic infractions. Three immediate roadside sanctions were issued for impaired driving.

On Sept. 5, Ponoka RCMP responded to a call regarding a female who was attempting to steal merchandise from a store. Upon arrival, officers located the female and determined that she had already returned the merchandise after learning police had been called. The store owner did not want any further police involvement. Then, on Sept. 18, police assisted the Ponoka Fire Department with a chair that had been set on fire between two businesses in Ponoka. Descriptions of the suspects were provided and patrols were made, but the suspects were not located. It’s still unknown who the chair belonged to and who set it on fire.

On Sept. 25, RCMP members received a report of a glass break alarm at a local business. Through their investigation, it was determined that a 16-year-old youth had broken the window. The youth was arrested and charged with mischief.
