PONOKA -- Seniors in Ponoka recently came together to mark this year's International Day of Older Persons.
This came as part of an event hosted between team members and seniors at the Seasons Ponoka Retirement Community to recognize the contributions, experiences, and wisdom of older adults. This included a special buffet-style lunch featuring festive table settings as well as various afternoon activities on Oct. 1, 2026. Seasons Ponoka GM Stephanie Waldron says it was a memorable experience for local seniors.
"Our residents bring a wealth of stories, experiences, and perspectives to our community, and it's a privilege to recognize their contributions, celebrate their accomplishments, and create meaningful moments together," said Waldron. "Our International Day of Older Persons celebration was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the residents who make Seasons Ponoka such a special place to call home."
As part of the event, senior residents took part in a creative workshop featuring card making and an opportunity to sign Christmas cards for members of the military. Waldron says this helped create a meaningful day of connection, creativity, and celebration.
"We brought our residents together to recognize their contributions, some of their experiences, and the wisdom of some of our older adults in the community," said Waldron. "I think it's very important to recognize them, to celebrate their accomplishments, and to create some meaningful moments together so they can feel like they are heard and seen."
She says the event served as part of their ongoing commitment to creating vibrant communities where older adults can build connections, pursue their interests, and continue to live life to the fullest.
