STONY PLAIN -- The number of new building permits issued in Stony Plain rose by 128% last year when compared to 2023.
The Township issued a total of 183 permits for new construction starts in 2024, up from a total of 80 the year prior. Last year also saw a 10% increase in the number of permits issued for building improvements in 2023.
Meantime the value of building permits in the Town of Stony Plain increased by 162% from 2023 to last year. This was mainly due to the Town’s new Community Recreation Centre and a new Public Works building. The total value of all building and development permits in 2024 was approximately $126.8 million, up from $40.5 million the year prior.
Stony Plain also issued a total of 1178 trade permits in 2024, which represents an 84% increase compared to the 639 issued in 2023. These included a total of 382 gas permits, 192 plumbing permits, 603 electrical permits, and 1 private sewage disposal system permit.
