SPRUCE GROVE---- Spruce Grove council presented a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement to Sergeant Oliver Poitras who received the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award last year. The certificate was presented during Spruce Grove's council meeting on Tuesday.
The award is designed to recognize teens and young adults in the commonwealth who complete a series of challenges that can help equip them for life.
"The award is split into four categories- physical recreation, skills development, volunteering and the completion of an adventurous journey," said David Wolanski, public administrator of the City of Spruce Grove.
Sergeant Poitras received the Silver Award for accomplishing goals in all four categories.
"It's youth like you that inspire everybody to step it up," said Mayor Jeff Acker, congratulating Sergeant Poitras.
Sergeant Poitras is currently working on the Gold Award, which will take him a minimum of 18-24 months to complete.
