LEDUC COUNTY -- Alberta Health Services has issued a water quality advisory for Zeiner Park Beach at Pigeon Lake.
According to AHS, this is due to elevated levels of bacteria being detected via recent testing of the lake water at the beach. At current levels, gastrointestinal illness may result from ingestion of the water at Zeiner Park Beach, and there is also the possibility of skin, ear, and eye infections with water contact.
The provincial health agency advises members of the public to refrain from swimming or wading in this area while the advisory is in effect. They also remind visitors and residents to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any body of water, including Pigeon Lake, at any time. Water-borne organisms, including fecal bacteria, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
