Devonna Klaassen appointed to CSBA

LEDUC -- Devonna Klaassen has been appointed to a role with the Canadian School Boards Association.

Klaassen, who already serves on the school board for the Black Gold School Division and also as Vice President of the Alberta School Board Association, is set to take on another title as she becomes Alberta's new representative with the CSBA. 

"I am honoured to represent Alberta and bring forward the perspectives of school boards from across the province to the national table," said Klaassen. "I look forward to working with colleagues across Canada to strengthen locally elected school board governance and support student success."

The Canadian School Boards Association is a national non-profit organization representing provincial and territorial school board associations across Canada. It acts as the voice for over four million elementary and secondary students and hundreds of democratically elected school board members and trustees, championing publicly funded and locally governed public education.

Klaassen has served as a school board trustee with the BGSD since 2017, and had previously served as Board Chair prior to the appointment of new Chair Angie Charpentier in June. Klaassen, who led the team during a pivotal transition period, will remain a member of the BGSD school board in addition to her duties with the ASBA and CSBA. Klaassen is a resident of the Town of Devon and a University of Alberta graduate with a degree in Psychology.
