LEDUC -- Leduc RCMP held their second annual "Project Streetlight" initiative on August 13th and 14th.
Project Street Light, which was held for the first time last year, is a collaboration between police, municipal partners, social agencies, and residents. According to the detachment, the operation was originally designed to combine enforcement with compassionate intervention, ensuring that while crime and public disorder are disrupted, pathways toward long-term community well-being are also supported.
"Project Street Light is improving safety through visible policing and proactive crime reduction," said Cst. Lindsay Grant of the Leduc RCMP detachment. "Police are focusing on locations and specified targets identified through crime analysis and community feedback."
Cst. Grant says that Project Streetlight consists of several key pillars, including the targeting of repeat offenders, warrant and public disorder, and conducting check stops. The operation also saw the deployment of outreach teams, crisis intervention, and diversion, as well as high-visibility patrols and business and resident engagement. Intelligence-led policing was also noted as a main piece of this year's Project Streetlight, which involved coordinating analyst support, hotspot analysis, and strategic deployment of resources.
"Crime prevention is a shared responsibility, and we are committed to sharing the successes achieved through this project," said Cst. Grant.
Leduc RCMP are expected to unveil the results of this year's initiative in the coming days.
