DEVON -- It's expected to be a busy few months in Devon for major capital projects.

In total, ten significant upgrade and rehabilitation projects are slated to take place across the municipality starting this spring. In a statement, Devon staff say these various upgrade and rehabilitation projects aim to maintain, improve, and grow the community. Manager of Infrastructure Sean Goin says that one of the major projects is scheduled to take place at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

"There are adjustments needed for ensuring that we have the capacity available when needed," said Goin. "These upgrades will improve the overall process for the facility and make sure we're able to meet those capacities."

These upgrades will include security fencing upgrades, evaluation of the current outfall system, and membrane capacity upgrades. Meantime, Goin says that a section of Aspenleaf Road that experiences spring-related issues will be getting some much-needed attention.

"The section requiring repair will see rehabilitation of the area where we see that localized failure," said Goin. "The construction itself will be very quick -- probably within a one-week window -- but it will be part of a larger municipal project while the contractor is on site."

The work along Aspenleaf Road will include an overall rehabilitation of the roadway to improve durability and drainage. Work is also set to take place at the GFL Twin Arena, which will see the replacement of large-capacity hot water tanks, concession equipment upgrades, and a new make-up air unit in the concession area. This is expected to cost $209,100 with work wrapping up in the fall.

"We have a make-up air unit that has exceeded its useful life," said Goin. "It's had some issues that we've been looking to resolve, and at this point we'll be replacing the unit."

At the Peace Cemetery, crews will be expanding and enhancing the amenity with a new columbarium and family columbarium spaces, while also adding additional pathways and a new entrance kiosk. The estimated cost of the project will be $95,000 from the town's cemetery reserve.

Other notable projects include the replacement of fire engine #1 ($1,630,000), replacement of backup generator at the reservoir ($340,000), pool deck and surfacing ($100,000), and storm line upgrades on Michigan Street ($445,000).
