Leduc RCMP lay charges following traffic stop on Discovery Way

LEDUC -- Two people are facing drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop in Leduc. 

The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 17, in a parking lot just off Discovery Way. It's reported by police that members of the integrated community safety unit were conducting patrols in the area when they observed a nearby vehicle.

A traffic stop was initiated by officers, and a search of the vehicle was conducted shortly after due to the presence of illegal items in plain view. The search led to the discovery of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a can of bear spray.

This resulted in arrests and charges for two individuals, 27-year-old Kennedy McMillan of Calmar and 30-year-old Devon Shannon of Thorsby. Both suspects were charged with the following offences:

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Possession of a controlled substance

McMillan and Shannon were both released on an appearance notice and are now set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc on Aug. 13, 2026. Constable Lindsay Grant notes that the amount of methamphetamine recovered from the vehicle would not have been sufficient for trafficking purposes. She encourages residents to continue to report suspicious activity.

"The Leduc RCMP asks the public to promptly report suspicious behavior, as early reporting supports effective response and ongoing investigations," said Cst. Grant. "By working together, the RCMP and community members can help enhance neighborhood safety."
