LEDUC -- The Leduc Community Hospital Foundation will be hosting its annual Charity Golf Classic on June 5.

The event, which is now in its 33rd year, aims to raise funds for new healthcare equipment such as treatment chairs for inpatient units, crash carts, defibrillators, and more. Executive Director Joy Jeong says the Charity Golf Classic has had a tremendous impact in the community for over three decades and has supplied much-needed support for local healthcare.

"We purchased a portable X-ray machine that's in the Leduc Hospital right now; also in 2017, we purchased a CT Scanner for the Leduc Hospital, which cost more than $2.1 million," said Jeong. "A lot of the equipment we've purchased lately has also gone to the ER, so things like training equipment for practitioners, or compression machines, a lot of things have gone to our ER to improve things there."

Jeong says that over the past five years, the annual Charity Golf Classic has raised over $100,000 towards bolstering local healthcare. Hosted at the Leduc Golf and Country Club, the event features eighteen holes of golf with power carts, access to the driving range, beverage and food holes, swag bags, prizes, and a silent auction.

"You can register online at our website lchfoundation.ca," said Jeong. "If you go to the website, there will be a button to press where you can register. You can also donate to the Golf Classic if you're unable to make it out for the day; we're always looking for people to donate items for our silent auction, or people to volunteer to help us out during the day."

Funds raised at the event will also benefit public health centres in Beaumont and Thorsby.
