Woman dies following hit-and-run on Highway 13

MASKWACIS -- A resident of the Montana First Nation has been killed after a fatal hit-and-run near Wetaskiwin. 

According to RCMP, the incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on the night of Thursday, May 1st, along Highway 13 near Range Road 244. While no suspects have yet to be identified, Mounties confirmed that the 50-year-old woman from the Montana First Nation was pronounced dead at the scene. The remains of the deceased were then transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.

At this time, RCMP are seeking to speak with anyone who may have traveled in the area between the hours of 10:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on May 1st, or anyone who may have witnessed a pedestrian on the roadway in that location. Police are also appealing for any dashcam footage recorded during this time period. Police are releasing a photo of a vehicle of interest in the investigation, and ask for public assistance in locating the vehicle.

The vehicle is described as a White 2020-2025 Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 series with a large white canopy. If anyone has any information regarding this vehicle and its whereabouts, please contact RCMP at 780-312-7267.  If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
