RIMBEY -- The Town of Rimbey continues to examine options for a new community spray park.
This comes as Rimbey staff say the current spray park is now sixteen years old and that repairs may not be sufficient. One of the options they are considering would see the creation of an entirely new amenity at the BMX Park on the corner of 56 Avenue and 47 Street. The exact location would be directly south of the existing playground.
"This will include the demolition of the existing spray park and turning that space into a picnic area adjacent to the current swimming pool," reads a statement from the Town of Rimbey. "The existing fence between the swimming pool and spray park will be removed."
To build a completely new spray park, the estimated cost would be $205,000, plus the cost for hookups to Town of Rimbey's water line. The new park would be approximately the same size as the current spray park, and include new wheelchair accessible features. It would also utilize a flow-through system, which Rimbey staff say would not require expensive filtration systems.
Two other options are also being considered. The first would see the town convert the existing spray park to a low-flow system at a cost of $250,000. To completely restore the current spray park, the estimated cost would be between $700,000-$900,000 and would include a brand-new filtration system. As part of the planning process, the Town of Rimbey is inviting residents to share what option they'd like to see selected.
